« on: 16 December 2004, 16:52 »
my H reg 8 valver i think has had electric window motors pu in the doors, the handles have been removed and there are wires going to where the switches should be, i found the switches in the glove box but how do i conect them and how many wires should there be?

you should have 2 wires in the door, the switch should have a wire for up a wire for down an earth and the wire to light the switch up. how it knows which way to spin the motor tho is beyond me, what with there being only 2 wires in the door (that i can remember) unless the 2 wires in the door are both poitive and the motor is earthed to the door itself then it would work, because whichever wire had current thru it would give a different affect on the motor i.e. up or down.

sorry to go off track a bit. im gonna go and try find out cos im confused now.

anyone else know?

I'm prob wrong but I'm saying that both the wires are positive and motor is earthed to door itself which prob means its the other  :undecided:

right in worked it out i think. the windows are earthed thru the loom and switch so when you push up one wire is live and the other earth. when you push down the relay swaps and the one that was earth becomes live and the one that was live becomes earth.

you should have in the left hand door a white and black wire and a white wire. and in the right hand door you should have a black and yellow wire and a yellow wire. each door has its own switch so this is anindependent circuit for each door but they share a common live feed which is black and red. and a common earth which is brown.

so you should have for each switch 1 brown wire 2 black and red wires and on red wire with a black stripe.

the red wire with the black stripe is the power for the light in the switch. the 2 black with a red striped wire are your power feeds for the motors. the brown is the earth. the only thing im not sure about is which terminals they connect to on the switch. when its light i will pull a switch off and see if i can work it out.

it all starts from the right hand switch which is the first in the circuit from the relay. (i.e. the relay is first, then the wires go into the righthand window switch then they are wired from that into the lefthand window switch)

The black and red striped wire comes off of terminal 30 of the relay, the main power feed from the cars loom (not the window loom but the positive circuit of the car) goes into terminal 87 of the relay. the earthfor the relay goes from terminal 85 and the 'activation' wire for the relay goes to the remaining terminal 86 (this is coloured black and yellow)

this is really confusing without the diagram want me to scan it in?

sw/ro is black with a red stripe and

ro/sw is red with a black stripe

ro is plain red

sw/ge is black with a yellow stripe

ge is plain yellow

br is brown

v15 is the right door motor

e41 is the right switch

v14 is the left door motor

e40 is the left switch

j51 is a simple 30a switching relay

s37 is a 30a fuse

all the t2v etc things represent connectors

g1 is the fule gauge ???

l53 is a lightbulb in the switches

the connections for the switches are as follows-

when looking at the back of the switch i have worked it out top left to bottom right if you know what i mean?

top left = black wire with a red stripe

top right = brown

middle left = solid colour wire (yellow or white depending on which side, passenger or driver)

middle right = white with a black stripe or yellow with a black stripe again depending on which side of the car

bottom left = red wire with a black stripe

bottom right = black wire with a red stripe

lol at your explanation both wires are nothing there isnt anything on them the 3rd wire on the switch goes to earth when you press for the windows up the earth and up wire are connected and completes a circuit in the motor to make the window go up and vice versa for windows down. if you connect either wire to the body of the car the window will go up or down. same principal works for central locking if you bought and installed the kits that are around they have 2 wires for opening and closing the locks by grounding them you can lock/unlock doors ie add them to a window button :P
