MKIV TDi engine performance upgrades...
« on: 06 June 2010, 22:14 »
Posted this in Mk4 first, but no one there likes the diesels.

So I thought I'd try it here!

I've just bought a MKIV golf engine...

I'm gonna be dropping it into a MKII chassis, but I want to up the BHP & MPG before I get it in there so I don't have to piss about with ramps and that.

My budget is £1000 (would probably spend more though) and the engine didn't come with a turbo or diesel pump.

I'm thinking about running it on a veg and acetate mix instead of diesel.

Any suggestions?

It's the 1.9TDi from a 2000 model MKIV golf.

I think it's an AGR...

90bhp engine?

Pop some bigger injectors in there and a custom map for 125-130bhp

Be prepared to replace the fuel filter.

When you say bio do you mean Bio diesel or veg oil?

Colder air on a diesel?

The diesels prefer warm air don't they? Hence why we get poor mpg in the winter.

Well so i've read, so if it's wrong do enlighten me please.

They prefer colder air as its more dense and you can squeeze more in to the cylinder.. this is what the intercooler is for. The struggling in the cold is down to the diesel, thicker oil and the fact we combust it not just light it with a spark plug like the feeble petrol lads  :lipsrsealed:   (sorry felt like being brave!)

to be honest i am not entirely sure about cold/warm air, but the pipe has made a difference as it allows the turbo to kick in quiker so feels more responsive plus the induction kit makes the car sound a little less of a diesel canel boat sound  a photo update will be made soon
