immobiliser
« on: 06 June 2010, 13:24 »
Replaced the fuel filter on the golf during the week and as per the haynes manual you need to remove the fuel pump relay and crank the car to depressurise the fuel system

Took seconds to take out / refit the relay.

I know the golf has a factory fitted immobiliser but with the relay out theres no way some scumbag is ever going to get the car started. Might start taking it out overnight

What do ye think?

Trouble is Mate is that if some scroat is in your car and trying to start it then he will get cheesed off and smash your pride and joy to pieces.

+1 also removing the relay is pointless the immob will stop it starting.

i do this if i take my car to an area thats a bit dodgy, just means it'll take em that much longer to get the car started.  if they realy want it though, they will take it.  if you have enough time you can bypass immob as well, if you know how.

will stop your average car theif for a bit, if they had a bit of dub knowlege tho they would know how to jump the pump relay socket to get car started.  the mk3 has an advantage here in that the fusebox is a right slag to get to compared to a mk2 though

and eventually you'll damage the socket.
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

has your golf got the alarm/ immobiliser fitted.
My alarm is so loud, you would need a pair of ear defenders to steal it!!!!

Dont want anyone taking my car so if it means having it smashed because they couldnt get it started rather than taken and never to be seen again, then id go with that option. Also the longer it takes and the more obstacles there is to getting it started then the more chance they'll move on to something they can get going.

If i was worried about annoying them then id have the immboliser removed altogether

Presume the "elite" thieving scum bags out there are not taking our MK3's so if the immboliser is so good then they must be rarely stolen?
