Mk2 or Mk3 Gti ?

Hi guys.I know this question has probably been asked many times before.I have recently been searching for a golf Gti and want to know the best course to take.I have owned a Mk2 in the past and loved it.Which do i buy,another Mk2 or a newer Mk3 ?.All suggestions appreciated.Thanks.

I really don't think it is anyone's decision apart from yours. Members will go on weight to ratio , looks , cats, and cost.

Now that's done....MK2 everytime...Mk3 looks like a bubble car , slower especially the 2 liter . Then the cat......Mk2 you know it makes sence :tongue:

Mk 3 for me but you havent given us any idea of what you want it for (fun, daily etc) so cant really help. :wink:

Lovin the Truckin stickers in wagon chuff :grin:, Mk3 8v has been the best allround golf ive owned!
AA man has forgotten what i look like, Mk2's had me on first name terms :grin:
If you got DIY hands and time then its Mk2 for pleasure hands down, if not then Mk3 for comfort and reliability.
Mk1/2 is Retro cool :cool:

ive had both, and would never have another mk3, it feels like your driving a barge boat.
the mk3 has no soul and feels like any other car to drive. the mk2 puts a smile on your face, is great to drive and looks as cool as fcuk.

Wow,definitely can of worms and minefield :smiley:Having already owned a Mk2 in the past i would love to own one again,but this time a 16v instead of the 8v version.I do like the Mk3 but there seems to be a few niggling issues that are common in most Mk3's.As for its use,i have a works van which i use daily so it would only be for weekend fun and occassional VW meetings.Grateful for all the comments guys a Mk2 it is going to be i think  :grin:.

got a mk2 spent a load of money on it and now i just found out the sill needs replacing. still i wouldnt sh!t a mk3. :smiley:
