Just ignore the trolls. Most of them are probably unaware that petrol and diesel both come out of the same hole in the ground.

Yeah and you talk out that hole in your arse, thats something we cant do anything about either unfortunately.

Wow, sorry for rockin' the boat.

I'm not saying the GTD is a bad car - in fact, when I have a long motorway blast ahead of me, I wish I had the D and not the I - all I was saying is that the particular carbon grey model I saw yesterday looked very bland without the red trim. Obviously, CG is not the best colour for the GTD. White or red suit it a lot better.

No I haven't driven it Steve. It came out after I got my GTi so I haven't had the need to yet.
Like I said I'm not doubting it's a fantastic car and I could quite easily see me buying one in the future if fuel costs keep going mad.
However, the two key points for me were my personal experience with VW diesels in the past (they were that bad I vowed I would never buy another) and the heart strings aspect of the mid life crisis. I'm afraid a diesel was never going to satisfy those pangs.
As for it looking bland, I think it does look bland compared to the GTi but (in my humble opinion) that's all down to the alloys. If you stuck some Monzas on it now that'd be a different kettle of fish (remember I'm a huge fan of the Monzas and know this is a subjective opinion).

I cannot see how not having a red trim turns a car from not bland to bland  :undecided:
I guess i may have a different understanding of the word bland. I find the mk6 golf a designed by comitee bland eurobox anyway just its the best of the bad bunch.

I walked past a parked GTD this morning while taking the kids to l'école. I noticed it because it was exactly the same spec' as my GTI: 5-door, carbon grey, cloth seats, etc. but it looked so dull and bland without the red bits (front grill inserts & cloth seats). They are such small additions, but boy, do they make a difference!

Bring on the hate mail

It's all in the detail. I think the gti really needs the jacky cloth seats to set it off. I test drove a gti with leather  and it just didn't inspire me at all, never mind 'normal' cloth -  are the gtd seats recaros, like the gti?

yes they are, everthing is the same as the GTI without the red stripes & Monza's also the diesel engine

The GTD and GTi have exactly the same seats etc.
The only difference apart from the engine, are the 18" wheels you can spec and the bars on the front grille which for the GTD are chrome rather than red as for the GTi.
Even though I have a GTi, I love the GTD with DSG gearbox a bit more! It is a superb car and brilliant as an all purpose transportion tool.

The thing is Andy , to me this is useless thread becuse a lot people on here slate the car without even testing the a GTD. I have had many GTI's inc an Ed30, belive me the GTD is up there mate with GTI go and test one and get back to me with a PM??
