Not tried it myself but I know a few people use Autoglym Motorcycle cleaner folowed by Autoglym vinyl and bumper care

Here's a pic of the engine bay (Neil aka old_no7)

Spray the cleaner and and leave it for a few minutes, agitate stubborn areas

Pressure wash off (watch the electrics!)

Then spray on the the vinyl care and leave to dry overnight

depends what type of engine

one pictured above is too easy, just need bumper care for those types as its all just plastic trims and covers

i did my mk 3 engine and got awesome results using gunk spray, autoglym engine degreaser and WD40, i did also polish a few parts up too

Just try not to directly blast where the HT leads enter the cam cover and you'll be fine. Oh and make sure the green plug on the gearbox is present, or at least that the hole is covered.

as said above you'll be fine if you dont blast the electrics directly with the lance, a bit of water over everything wont do any harm but direct pressure will, just proceed with caution and all will be good
