VR6 difficulty starting

Hi guys hope u help my mate out ..
he got N reg Vr6 3 door model, His fuel pump on vr6 has gone so he bought spanky new fuel pump and refitted onto petrol tank but since then the car having difficulty to start !! But it start a while . Any idea wot went wrong here?  :undecided:

Did he bleed the fuel system after fitting the new pump cos if not it'll be a b!tch to start and won't run very well, slacken off all the bolts connecting the fuel lines to the injectors, get someone to try and turn the engine over and then once the fuel begins to leak out of the fuel pipes by the injectors tighten the bolts up. this could be the problem? hope this helps.

Exactly why do you need to bleed the fuel system ?

Is it a diesel ?

Going on that remark you would have to bleed your fuel system everytime you ran out of fuel which you do not.

I always thought that a petrol VR6 had a pressurised fuel system and as such has a feed from and a return to the tank.

When you fit a new pump it may take time to bring up the pressure in the system enough to start the car but you wont get air locks as you have a return to the tank.

Also when you turn on the ignition you'll hear the pump prime itself for about 5 seconds. what this is doing is building up pressure in the system so its ready to go the moment you turn the key.
