new alloys need spacers?
« on: 30 May 2010, 22:09 »
I haven't a clue about this topic so if its a stupid question please forgive me.

I got 18 inch alloys on my mk4 golf replacing the original vw ones. They dont feel right had they checked etc but still dont feel right.Ive read alot on here about spacers.Do I need them? They shop that sold and fitted the new alloys fitted some but not decent ones I think. What spacers do I need and where do I get them? Does anyone sell and fit them in the north east area ie teesside area.

What do you mean when you say it doesn't feel right?

Whats wrong?

You shouldnt need spacers atall unless really low / want to fill arches / PCD adaptors..

Are you refering to spigot rings rather than spacers?

Spigot rings? Are they thin black rings in the centre of the wheel? The guy at quick fit said they where poor quality ones they had fitted. As not right I mean slight steering wheel wobble just doesn't feel how it did before I upgraded my alloys. Ive had them checked out and the nuts checked for being loose but it came back ok but still it doesn't feel right?

Yeah those are the buggers, just ensure they're the right size for your centre bore :)

Have the wheels been balanced?

Yeah they have been balanced twice. The guy at quick fit when balancing them mentioned they had cheap spigot rings and showed me these black thin rings so that mite be my problem. What type or make of spigot rings do I need them and where would I get these from fitted?
