funny noise from rear

i notice this kind of bumping noise coming from the rear of the car everytime i go over a bump.  It tends to be worse under load.  Could this be my bumpstops?  Or am I barking up the wrong tree?  At first I thought it may be the bumper catching on the exhaust etc but no joy down that route.  The noise is getting progressively worse and I reckon it could be just that my suspension is shot.  As some of you may know I'm fitting some coilies on in a week or two so I am kind of hoping that this will fix the problem.  I was just wondering if any of you could suggest anythingelse that it could be as I am prepared for the noise not going away when I fit my new coilovers.

exhaust hangers? fuel pump mounted securely? other than that it will be suspension

this is the exhaust. when the rear goes lower it becomes worse.

check that your rear metal exhaust hanger hasnt snapped. quite comon on these mk2's

nope rear exhaust hanger is still there although the exhaust does tend to wobble about quite a bit.  Is there only meant to be one exhaust hanger at the back??  Just my exhaust has a bracket on either side

its probably the washer at the top of the damper thats broken and fallen off this makes a clonk noise when driving. when you got it in pieces for new sus check all your bushings etc tho

should be four mounts. one at the rear of the back box. Two at the front and one further up. If you have one knackered it will make your exhaust rattle.

Thx for all of your replies, hmm i got all the mounts, i reckon it could be the washer at the top of the dampers as well thx vdub.  I will check all bushs when i fot new sus although all the front ones should be alright because theyve all been replaced about a month ago.  Pain in the arse they were as well.  Say it is rear bushes how hard are they to sort out?  A pain in the butt me bets!
