Grumbly fuel pump
« on: 26 May 2010, 22:13 »
I have noticed the fuel pump on my 8v sounds very noisy!  when i turn the ignition on and it primes it kinda sounds like it struggles,  then when its running its fine but its very loud!!

I have a spare 16v pump but i know these run at higher pressure, would it be ok to run that pump?  will the stock pressure regulator counteract it or will it just over pressurise/stress the pump?

Also,  any one else got/had a noisy pump and has it ever caused a problem?  Never heard of one failing

16v pump is the same as the 8v GTI one, its the VR6 thats higher pressure. vr6 pump would still work ok tho, the fpr will just dump the excess back to the tank :)

Oh?  :embarassed: Silly me, i looked on auto data and found the 16v engine runs at higher pressure, so when i did my conversion i changed the pump, must have just been the regulator thats diffrent then

Never mind, anyway i will try the other pump soon and see how it goes! thanks!

I forgot all about my noisy fuel pump actually, i put some matt down in the boot and it muffled it,  anyway its done 8000 miles and still working spot on!  So in my case so far nothing has failed... yet.
