HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well I took the ISV cleaned the throttle body AGAIN, turned it over and still didn't idle

basically got the ump with it, so just unplugged it crossed my fingers and toes and turned it over...she now idles all be it about 500rpm

will run it for as long as I can like this...is there away of permanently bypassing this?

One thing I noticed, was the vacuum pipe, that goes from the inlet manifold to the brake master cylinder is rock hard, should it be like this, or is it time to replace it??

Oh well still not much going on here even tho theres lots to do...but I am skint.

Gave the car a wash this morning, well I say wash just drentched the bottom half of the car, inc wheels, and in the arches, and the glass with TFR and rinsed it off with the pressure washer, dried the glass but left the body to air dry (good thing about having weathershield paint  :smug:).

Removed the 'drift buddie' from the toe eye and some stickers off the rear screen so the car is looking a little tidier now

Oh well thats the thanks I get for giving her a wash!

having real trouble selecting 2nd gear, other gears are fine and the clutch is not slipping so suspect its to do with the gear linkage...

I've heard linkage kits been mentioned before, anyone know what comes in the kit and how hard is it to replace??

the other problem could be classed as a 'driver error', bombing down the A13 this morning pulled in to fill up with petrol and thought "whats that smell"? looked down and it was my rear offside brake was smoking, pulled the hand brake on and off a couple of times before carrying on with my journey...doesn't seem to have got hot again so perhaps the handbrake must of been slightly on  will keep and eye on it tho

That was a bit silly mate!  I got a linkage kit off tierod69 on eBay, was about £22 including delivery iirc. Kit includes shift rod, plastic coupler, and bushes. Actually made mine worse to start with as it needed precise adjustment to get everything working properly in the end. Worth a shot though, or a gear oil replacement if that's no good.

If you intend on installing a linkage kit then its also advisable to buy an alignment tool as well, they cost about £7/8 on eBay and make setting the linkage correctly a doddle.

I'm not sure tbh, I know you can get linkage kits and alignment tools on eGay for little money though.

PM benrevs too as he fabricates the balljoint type thing that the gearstick pivots on I think. He only charges a few quid for it, and it tightens up the movement of the stick when selecting gear/when in gear.

Thanks guys...

I managed to find the ebay shop regarding the kit, thanks seanl, but thought id check the VW first...

you cant buy them as a kit from the VW but I just bought everything that was needed to do the job, came in about £16 which is cheaper than the ebay shop and I get to collect it later today so result all round...

as for the tool, no-one seems to sell it, didnt want to wait on delivery from ebay, VW said they can't sell tools from the parts depo any more but to email tools.equipment@vwg.co.uk, but I'm just going to get the missus to sit in the car and test the gear stick as I adjust it.

If all goes well with work, I should be attempting the gear linkage Thursday daytime, and I've ordered some new plugs, and they'l go on tonight.

Thanks again guys....updates end of the week, fingers crossed
