2007 Golf GTI Import
« on: 24 May 2010, 20:25 »
Hello, new member here!!

I am going to look at a 2007 GTI 5 door import with DSG from a VW franchise dealer, can anyone give me any advice on what to ask and what to look out for, and if it is a good idea to get an import?

thanks

C

Why not wait for a uk car, import will be worth less.

Ok, i bought a brand new import from MotorProvider in Sheffiled 2.5 years ago, 27k later amd no mechanical problems and no regrets I saved 3.8k and the car was made to my spec.

Check where the car was imported in from, mine was sourced in the Netherlands you can check the PDI stamp and it will tell you in the log book, if it was sourced by MotorProvider I would have no hesitation.

MotorPoint imported many examples from Dubia which had been sat in a sandy field for sometime, these are not full uk spec.

Few quick pointers to uk spec:
1) Space saver
2) Alarm
3) Bottle opener between seats.

I would do a HPI check, take the chassis number give VW a ring and find out what if any warranty work has been done, check the service history and the third brake light in the spoiler, if it has water in get it down before you pick it up.

Good luck
Simon

What makes you want a import, you need to be 100% sure it is uk spec but whatever happens it needs to be cheaper and will always be worth less.

I didnt really set out to buy an import, and might not. but the seller is a main dealer and its 2 minutes from my home, so i am going to have a look and test drive it as i have never drove one before.

I will check whether its a UK import and what service history it has and then make my decision, as there is a few more near me but not 2 minutes away :)

Guess i am being lazy.

I have a GTI supplied by a Dutch dealer.  The basic spec on the continent is higher than we put up with in the UK.
I would avoid UK cars and go for the import every time.

Had a look and it was a bit tatty inside and the log book had arabic writing so i am guessing it was a Dubia one.

Decided its not worth it, so gonna start looking for another one with DSG,

thanks for your advice
