 I use the castrol edge 5W30 504 00-507 00 spec which is a very good oil .  :wink:

ps another is quantum oil also 504 spec longlife which is what Vw dealerships use.

hi guys just had a little look on my oil levels to find my dipstick twisted at the bottom,the section where you read the levels. is this normal? and also is it safe to drive when its like this?

Its twisted on my diesel.
I had my oil light on the other week and went to fill it up, what a nightmare.
Its virtually impossible to tell where the oil is up to. The dipstick isn't the greatest design I've seen.

Slight twist in it to lock. Notice it is also very flexible.
No problem reading mine today. However, you do need good light.
Car has not used a drop of oil in 1100 miles. Oil also looks very clean. Long may it continue.

Either that, or you withdrew too slowly and it all dripped off! :wink:

I don't know which diesel you have but its not twisted on mine.  :wink:

7000 miles and not used a drop.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.
