Well I found that the lens is a very smooth surface and as a result doesnt need any kind of pressure to remove the dust, i use a very soft glasses cleaner cloth and just drag it over the lens [dont apply any pressure] and that seems to grab the dust off for me.
I use a lense cap so much as well so even after 4 months there isnt much on there.
IMO you really want to use a blower or brush to remove the loose particles, it's the same principle as using a sponge to clean your car, whilst a micro fibre cloth should lift the particles away from the surface; if you can blow them or brush them off then you're not going to be pushing particles over the lens.
A lot of photographers will keep a UV / protection filter permanently on the lens, opinion on this is mixed as as extra layer of glass can cause internal reflections, lens flare or stop the lens down. If you look at the price of the top end UV / clear filters, the price is comparable to extended warranty plans that would cover your lens for break down and accidental damage.
