Well im totally different to you lot. from reading this thread.

I would much rather they left me alone to have a good look round and inspect the cars in the showroom. Then as i have legs i can go over to one of them, the one i think looks like they may know what a car is and their doing and ask for assistance. It's why one of my local dealers i have ordered quite abit from and the other i have not as i hate people hovering over me whan im having alook. I would much rather be left alone.

One of my local dealers i was at the other week because i turned up with a mate (who actually works for that group just a different brand) in a 24 year old audi, the sales person came over and asked if i wanted help and i said "i was just looking" (at the scirocco R at the time) the sales person said (i hope itwas just a joke anyway),  "just dreaming then!"
I agree with this Snoopy.
I hate salespeople hovering when I'm having a good old nosey around. If I want to know something I'll go and ask them.

All I require is for them to ask me whether I need any help and if I am OK. They should then respect my requirements depending on my answer.
But to ignore me totally all of the time would really annoy me as would constant hovering.
Can't please me easily unfortunately!

I went to the dealer in Glasgow (verve) a while back before the mk6 came out. apart from not leaving me alone he told me many things. (this was to get me to buy an ed 30 at the time)

1. VW would be unlikely to bring out a GTI after the mk5 as there was no longer a market.

2. There was no such thing as a turbo and supercharger combination on any VW product. The 1.4 golfs ran on turbo system alone.

Now I know both of these items are false. But it's to know the staff know their product.

I don't like them hovering either. But I've stood in Leeds dealer more than once WANTING help and been ignored. Even when three of the muppets were sat in the corner huddled round a computer screen giggling to each other.
Do you think they have targets to meet - p*** 100 customers a month off and they get a bonus or something?

Arnold Clark, Phoenix Paisley was disappointing. Seemed disinterested and I seemed to know more about the product than the salesman. His attitude put me right off , or should I say the part exchange price , portably both.
Next visit was Arnold Clark Greenock, What a difference with an enthusiastic salesman who did know the product. Told him I had visited other VW dealers and if he could offer me a fair price for my trade in I would order today. He offered 1,000 more than any other dealer so I ordered a GTI. The car was delivered two weeks ahead of schedule. I ordered alloys from the accessory brochure to my surprise Arnold Clark delivered the alloys the GTI came with to my door in a van. I live 40 miles away from the garage. They day I picked the car up the salesman presented me with a very nice framed painting from a famous local artist.
So all in all it was a very satisfying experience buying the GTI.

That was a really impressive service you got there.  Mine did nothing wrong but didn't go the extra mile and seemed really bothered that I told VW what a good salesman he was
