dealers still sh1te then.....
« on: 20 May 2010, 21:25 »
Pulled up outside VW Swindon on Tuesday in the gleaming tornado MK6. Had a good look around the R demo outside before going in. grey MK6 in the showroom, had a good look around it for nearly ten minutes, opening the boot, doors etc.

Not one of the 4 sales people who were all free batted an eye lid. Tw@ts.

Did they see you already had a Mk6 GTi? If they did, you have the answer.
Anyway, it does not excuse their laziness and total lack of interest. How would they know if you were or were not a GTi collector or second Golf buyer if they just sat on their sorry South Poles?

Had the same experience when i was looking for my GTI. (Especially the bromley branch in London) As they say Supply and demand. They know they don't have any issues shifting these great cars and must be hitting their sale quotas. Still dont justify the way they act. Arrogant f**ckers.

Got to say it depends on the dealer.

We bought the mk5 from Battersea VW which I found to be an unpleasant experience, and personally felt they couldn’t give a toss and was VERY badly messed about with the delivery dates being bounced more times than a 16 year old trying to get into an over 21's night club (even when started to look at cancelling the order as was so fed up with them they didn't care).

However on the upside.... Found that Warrington VW and also one in Birmingham who I can’t remember the name of I found to be excellent.. They always went out of there way at both dealers.  We got the mk5 serviced there a few times was very impressed so bought the mk6 there. Big thumbs up regarding customer service from me regarding both sales and service at both dealers.

A funny story was my first experience of BMW dealers who I found were extremely rude, unprofessional, and didn't take anyone who is \ or looked young seriously. I remember when I was 19 and was lucky enough to own a 6 month old 318i Msport (the original 16valve one). I took it to the local dealer in Southport for something. Went in and nobody came over etc. Went to the service desk still nobody bothered to come over even after pressing the bell and waiting. So while waiting had a quick look inside a convertible that was right by the service desk.  At that point some bloke came in to the dealership and came over the convertible. At that point a BMW sales guy sprang up to his feet right away, came over.... and said..... "mind out of the way of the gentleman lads!!!!".....

Last year was the first time went back to BMW dealer since that incident, was to look at an M3\335i as replacement for the wifes 3door mk5 GTI as needed a 4 or 5 door due to arrivale of little ones. Was a different dealer and they were ok- as soon as walked in was asked if needed any help and seemed fine - which was unexpected! Sadly for BMW sales stats ended up with the mk6 GTI after very good experience at the warrington VW and also loved the car!

Ditto. Found the staff in Leeds totally uninterested. I think they just assumed you were wasting their time. How dare you enter my showroom and enquire about purchasing a £25 car???!!! And they also wouldn't even discuss discounts which I knew you could get.
So I went down the road and found two top guys - one in Sthingyhorpe and one in Doncaster. I bought mine from the latter - no fuss, very efficient, no pressure and always rang when he said he would.
Would happily go again to him.

Interesting you say that. It shows you the potential impact of a dealer getting poor feed back etc in this forum. A case in point is myself - I work a lot in Leeds and last year when when we were on the look out for a 4\5 door replacement for the wife’s then 3 door mk5 GTI. I was going to pop into the dealer there for first look and maybe a quick test drive in a mk6 after work. However I read thread that included a very unhappy bunny who was a customer of the Leeds VW, but this was also followed by other forum members replying to the post with more negative feed back about their experience with that dealer...Made me think – hmmmm..... will stick to the other 2 dealers who found to be very good! So went ended up at the other dealer = good experience with them and the car – and put a deposit down there and then, plus will go back for services etc.

Works both ways - good feed back helps forum members with recommendations for good dealer experiences and therefore will attract more sales I would expect. This is in contrast to people experiencing poor dealer service, and therefore providing negative feed back which I suspect could potentially lead to fewer serious customers as would expect people to do a little research & searches when scoping out a new car and a dealer etc.

Even though I live in London, I will probably get my next Golf GTi from Inchcape Telford again, that is if I am as poor as I am at present. They were really excellent. I have no complaints. This would be my first car (for daily driving).
(My second car (for posing), probably a BMW M3 saloon or M5 saloon in 3 years time. Can't have 2 door vehicles anymore for obvious reasons).

I have my own retail business, the hardest part of my job is getting people through the door. if once there we don't look after them then we do not deserve their business.

My expectations are extremely high, I expect that when I pull up in a £25K golf and start poking around a £35K golf, someone will have the decency to acknowledge me!
