Just feel like voicing out how happy I am.

Did a run down the german autobahn in my Mk1 golf gti with a 240bhp G60 swap, Ive spent sh!tloads. Was hoofing it down at about 140 (im guessing becasue it was all the way off the speedo)
And a loose supercharger pully flapped around and knocked the Cam belt off the distributor drive pulley (its the only explanation becasue the tensioner was still tight and the belt was in one peace). I thought i f**ked the engine. After i got it back to the workshop I took the head off and alll the valves were near enough closed and no sign of contact on the piston crowns.. SO I put it back together with a new head gasket and all is well =) near miss I guess. I count myself lucky, could have been mechanical bedlam

  • If I can't fix it at home, it ain't getting fixed.
Can you feck an engine if the ancillary and charge belts go... you would only have an issue if the cambelt went or have i misread this?

Was it a tooth belt system?
Also are you sure it was your cam belt? Its not clear
I would change that tiny belt on the charger if you have it out already?

Lucky regardless I've had the small belt go on me.

The motoring gods were obviously smiling upon you on this occasion.

It's always nice to hear someone with a positive story

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Cool!  It's a good thing that these old 8v's are non-interference engines, and I suppose a charged one even more so (increased deck height or thicker head-gasket to lower the compression I guess?)
