my first detail today

ive been planning this for some time now and thought today was a good opportunity.
i started with a wash, two bucket method with bilt hamber auto wash

then clayed it with the bilt hamber stuff - it removed quite a lot of reddy-brown contaminants. however the surface still felt slightly rough but the clay wasn't pulling anything more off.

i then applied bilt hamber auto balm, nice and thin like it says on the box. however it was a nightmare to remove, i thought i had it all but ive just looked and in the darkness i can see loads of wax still on it and not buffed in. i gave it a quick going over with the microfibre cloth but it didn't shift..

is there anyway to remove this, maybe wash it and that might soften it off again

any help would be great.

Either re-apply the wax and remove it quickly or spray a detailer over it like Megs Last Touch.

how long did you let the wax cure for and was it in direct sunlight?

i waxed the whole car up then removed it, so about an hour i guess.
yesterday was quite overcast but the sun did come through at times, to too long though.

as guy said did you apply to a hot panel in direct sunlight?

sounds like you need to go over it with the clay again and then give it a polish before waxing.

yeah it was, it wasnt blazing down with sun as it was overcast.
by out of direct sunlight does it basically mean in a garage lol ?
yeah i think ill have to start again

no!!! in the shade is fine just make sure the panels on the car arent very hot or the wax will weld itself to the surface again.
also double check the rough areas you were saying about as they can be removed by the clay and then polish so the surface is preped properly for the wax. the patches of wax that are left are proberly due to the rough patches on the car and the combination of the hot panels.

yeah that sounds like the likely causes.

I tend to keep testing areas by smudging them, if its difficult to move the wax then you know it needs to come off ASAP

you can normally tell when a wax is cured by site really as theres quite a difference between the two and you can see the wax curing if you look hard enough
