As those images are photoshopped versions of the NCC/Jetta concept shown in New York in January, you can be fairly certain the next Golf won't look like that.

I'll be quite honest. Finding this out has annoyed me. But further to my honesty... I don't know why. My car is still excellent.

Below is my attempt to convince myself against this evil information:

Firstly I don't trust the magazine. The VW golf is a hugely popular car and therefore any news about it affects more people than say... the new Ferrari f4something...there fore any news will make people - a lot of people - read the magazine. Thus there is motive for the magazine to fabricate a story.

Secondly VW has never facelifted a car so dramatically. New lights, new interior, new body panels, new engine??? The reason they brought out the mk6 was to reduce the cost of making the mk5. Changing every single aspect (save running gear) Seems like a great way to cut cost.

The edition 30 and particularly the pirelli were run out's for the mark 5. Further to this argument face lifted models usually get a host of new kit to justify a moderate price hike. The mk6 does not have any more standard kit than a 5 did.

I might also consider that VW used the slot of the mark 6 (the generation title). If it was a facelifted mark 5 then I reckon they would have called it something as such rather than bring it out as a new car.

I think it's a fabrication to get some sales...

Also I have the edition where they said the new astra was coming about 31/2 years ago. It's only just out now.

Without being picky the MK6 comes with Centre armrest, mfsw, rear tints, highline and ipod connector thingy as std which the MK5 did not. :nerd:

I really don't care less the Mk 7 is coming out next year. I need a new car last July and the MK6 won me over after test drive most of the other cars on my wish list!

As I've said in another thread, why oh why would you want a Golf to look like a Roc ?

I'll keep my mk6 for a good while longer and if the mk7 actually looks like that monstrosity I'll get a TTRS.

I know its only a photoshop but why couldn't they have made the two pictures the same?

No aerial on the first car.
Side skirts are totally different on each car.
First car seems to have different lights that come right round to half the body panel compared to the second.

Any other differences?

I always understood the mk6 was a lot more than a facelifted mk5

I'm waiting for the Mk8 in 2016.  My Mk5 will be 8 years old then.

They did it to the Mk4 Polo and twice to the Passat (Mk3-Mk4 and Mk5 to Mk5.5) - all three had new bumpers, lamps, body panels, interiors, engines and chassis tweaks. It gets the longest life out of the best platforms, at times when profit margins are most important.
