Hello
My water pump makes a fun bearing type noise when the fan comes on then goes away once the fan cuts out. Is this going to be a crap job to replace or not, my car is a mk2 16v.
Cheers

Hi Lee,
Don't understand why your water pump bearings should make a noise just because the fan comes on...........not being funny, but are you sure its not the fan itself? The fan bearings, can go.........I've had to replace one before now.

Hello rich its not the fan bearing, it comes from the water pump/cambelt/powersteering area. All the belts are tight aswell.

It's not your alternator bearing is it? Maybe the alternator is getting loaded up when you're cooling fan comes on
Just out of interest how freely does the cooling fan rotate......maybe its seizing causing a higher load on the alternator???

I'd vote for the alternator bearings as well, maybe the belt is too tight and needs to be loosened slightly. Get a long screwdriver or ratchet extension and place it on the alternator when the engines running, put your ear to the end of the tool your using and if its bearings you'll hear them.
