Motorway speeds of around 70 i easily get in to the 30's. Recently with cruise on and set to around 60 i was creeping in to the 40's. Just depends how you drive the car and how heavy your right foot is.
Cruise will make a big difference, the amount of cars i pass then they pass me then i repass over and over but my speed doesnt change.

Is your car standard spec?

Thanks for the reply Jimp.

I suppose what we need is a cruise control that will keep a constant throttle position rather than speed eh! (Not that this would be very safe at all )

535 miles Kendal to Mortimer Berkshire and back.  Cruise on most of the time.  44.3 mpg.  That's a DSG with bluefin.

I regularly hit 35ish mpg on my journeys, mixing b and minor a roads (with traffic) and dual carriage ways.
I'm not driving it like my gran, but I'm not ragging the hell out of it either, overtakes, pull aways from lights etc.
