Cutting Compound?

So, some of you may have seen I've got a rotary polisher (NEW TOY) in this section. A couple of questions I need help with please....

My car is Dragon Green, the paint work is pretty good I think. However, I do have a small patch on the roof that looks like some twit has used washing up scourer to remove bird poo or tar. When I polish the car, you only notice it if your standing in direct sunlight. So, is there a cutting compound that I could use with my rotary to get the swirls out? I've tried (megs) SwirlX but to be honest, I wasn't impressed (although I did it by hand at the time).

this is what I'm going to do
1 wash the car with megs shampoo
2 clay the car with megs clay
3 repeat 1
4 use a cutting compound???
5 polish using megs mirror glaze No7
6 wax with dodo blue velvet
7 wheels (bilberry) and tyres/plastics.

Do I use the rotary to apply the cutting compound AND taking off?
Do I use the rotary to apply the mirror glaze AND buff?
do I use the rotary to apply the dodo AND buff?

I know its long winded, but would really like to get this right

I really do appreciate any feed back.advice that you chaps give, so thanks for spending the time to read/answer me  :wink:

first of all what pads have you got for your rotory? and do you have any other compounds other than whats stated above?

pics would help alot for the patch your talking about :wink:

its hard to give the correct advice without having the car infront of me so to speak so i can see whats needed. plus if it needs alot of correction you need to take it easy or you'll go through the clearcote.

I have the first 3 heads that you see on this page http://www.silverlinetools.com/products/d86/s734 and 2 velcro lambs wool heads aswell. The only products that I have are whats listed above. ( I also have Dodo Juice Purple Haze and Megs 2.0xt wax)

jeeeeesus Forrest... STOP right there  :rolleyes:

you only picked this up yesterday, and today you are itching to have a crack at your roof without practicing on a scrap bonnet as you said you would

do you know anything about the amount of polish to use?
about the correct pad and polish combinations and how to work them out?
about how to work the polish at what speed and what time?
have you got a PTG to work with while you are doing this?

I'd hesitate that the answer is no? when you know the answers to this you won't be panicing about swirl marks on your roof and you'll be able to approach them in the correct manner

taking what looks like a grinder with a lambswool head with some 'cutting compound' is a one way ticket to the paintshop  :rolleyes:

get yourself onto a pro in your area or sign up for a DW course or one that I am trying to organise on here... there is too much to keep going over and over... its takes a good few hours to learn proper correction and just flying in with a rotary is not the way to do it. ok?

and you need to do the wheels first... if you spray any bilberry onto the paintwork you can wash it off when you wash the car  :wink:

Sorry, It does sound like I'm very impatient doesn't it :shocked:

I'm going to get the scrap bonnet on Wednesday, and have a good old practice with it next weekend. Once I've got my head around the correct way to use the machine on the scrap bonnet, I thought I would try to emulate the swirls/scratches that are on my roof on my scrap bonnet, then set about trying to get rid of them. The reason for the list above was if I was missing anything, I could order/buy it so I would have everything in place in about a months time when I intend to do the car.

Hope that makes more sense now. Wise words though Guy and heeded :smiley:

Right.. I'd look at menzerna polishes if you are serious about this.. I think Chris from waxamomo does sample packs. If not then I know elite do :wink:

lol @guy, i thought he was gonna have a heart attack at one point :laugh:

forest dude i wouldnt bother with the power gloss yet dude till you learn how to use the other less aggressive ones first.

Yeah, I think if he new where I lived, he'd come round and tap me one!! Still, I think I've put his mind at rest that I'm not quite as Gun Ho as it seems  :laugh:
