Sorry,

In my opinion having AWD, exclusivity, serious perfomance and very subtle performance looks are all more important than those 10.

I think you want the R but are trying to convince yourself that you really want the GTi.

I love my GTi but would take an R in a heartbeat.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

It's academic for me... I can't afford either.

But I'd rather an S3 than a MKVI R.

Steers for queers, ETTO innit?
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

What do you think? I'd be interested to hear other members views, especially if you've tested both models.

I was going to post this on the R forum, but it is such a heresy, i'm worried i might be banned.

I think you're wrong.

Please post on the R forum and give us the opportunity to respond. Maybe I'll do 10 reasons why the R is better than GTI. Horses for courses really, both excellent cars.

Me too, I even looked at the S3 over the GTI but went for the GTI. But if i could stand the rear and side view of a scirocco R it would be the one i would go for over the S3. Im just not a fan of heldex.

What we need is VW to make a GTiR!
Two 'rocco GTs on my street. UAF from the the rear. But even worse is that crappy Eos dashboard centre console.
The consensus from neighbours is: the GTi is chic and upmarket, the 'roccos look odd and fussy. Their words, not mine.

I know this is a GTi forum and I own a GTi, but I am quite sure there are 10 good reasons why the R is better then the GTi.
As for me, if I was not so stingy, if the fuel consumption was a bit better with the R and if its boot was a bit bigger, I would go for it, big time!
Conclusion: Both equally good but different.
