Hi, I'm mid-way through putting a 1.8t AGU engine from a '99 A3 into my Mk3 but have come across a few stumbling points. I have a donor car at work where I'm doing the conversion so have all the parts out of both cars available.
Firstly, what I've done so far:
1. Fitted the engine and box (from the A3) into the golf (have changed the engine mounts to diesel 1's as I've heard they're the same as a 16v and the fit the engine in fine.
2. Changed the pedal box over to accommodate the hydraulic clutch
3. Relocated all the under bonnet 'stuff' (washer bottle, PAS reservoir etc.) to where it was in the A3, using mostly A3 brackets and a few home made ones), I know it sounds like hard work but i want the car to look like it came out of the factory with this engine already in it, plus I haven't seen it done before and where these things are on the Golf doesn't with the A3 airbox.
4. Spliced the old Golf and A3 looms together, matching up the like-for-like wires.
5. Fitted a golf mk3 diesel intercooler (for now), it's not ideal but its the same size as the one from the standard A3 so shouldn't damage the performance (or so I hope!!)
Now for the problems:
1. After wiring the car up the car cranks but won't start (I'm thinking an Immobiliser problem??? if so is there anyway to recode it or even get it removed?)
2. What are the best radiator hoses to use (the rad I have is from an 8v)?
3. What can i do about the oil cooler pipes, I know you have to rotate the cooler itself to get around the engine mount but I'd like to keep the A/C so don't want to foul up the back on the compressor.
4. Does anybody know of an intercooler that i can fit into the front of the car without having to chop the car to pieces (too much)?
5. The master cylinder sits very close to the head at the moment, I don't think it will be a problem but it doesn't look 'nice' (which we all know is a big problem

)
Oh, and P.S. is anyone looking to get rid of a set of konig seats relatively cheaply??π
