Flashing temprature light on Instrument Cluster?
« on: 06 December 2004, 13:18 »
I occassionally get the flashing red light (the one that comes on when you start the car initially) when I am driving the car at high revs and at random times. The water temp needle sits fairly constant and wondered if this is a problem with engine cooling/thermo switches etc or just a problem with my cluster/mfa?

Cheers

I have checked oil and water levels. I did have a problem with leaking coolant from a cracked y shaped pipe from water pump to oil cooler but I fitted a new part. Light flashed less now but still flashes intermittently.

I have the same thing the Temp light come on (the light at the top of the dash) when it starts ................
The bad news is you need a new Speedo/rec clock like myself......

The reason it does this is because the foil that wraps around the back of the clock is broken)

As soon as mine starts to flash I shove my hand where the stereo once was put my hand behind the dash press on the foil new the temp it goes out !!!!lol

have you checked the water again recently as the flashing light on temp gauge means low water. when the resevoir runs out of water often the water level drops a few times aftter it has been filled as the air comes out of the system.

I had the same problem too..... I have renewed all of the pods on the dash as part of a VW technician fk up (who'd have thought it for ?70PH)??...... this did not resolve the light flashing problem. Mine turned out to be the switch on the back of the fan, the connection from the 'loom' and the fan was intermittently losing connection and this trips the red light on , try looking at that, maybe try spraying it  with elec contact spray and ensure that the contact is good/perminant.

Good luck!!!
