Golf GTI Report from Bangkok

hallo pleethum welcome to the forum
interesting to hear of experiences of a GTI from nearer the equator - in UK we tend to get the colder weather
i did visit Bangkok, Singapore and Thailand many many years ago, i understand the weather is rather 'tropical' with the tendency to have random super-heavy rainstorms, is this still true? the issue of the sponge in the car might be something that you will have to watch out for.

Yes, there are some random heavy rainstorms but not so often now. The whether here is just getting hotter and hotter...

But never mind that, I'm due to be going out to Thailand for my honeymoon in 3 weeks, 4 nights in BKK then 10 in Phuket.  Whats the situation like out there at the moment - especially in BKK. Supposed to be staying in the Shangri-la but obvioulsy things are a bit hairy ... would appreciate the man on the grounds opinion.  

In my opinion, the situation is getting better due to the government solution that just announced a few days ago. The effected areas are just one part of bangkok. Please see the attachment. I do live normally now. I drive to work and sometime just drove by the area. What happen today is that some of the leader of the demonstration do not what to stop now, they do not what to get arrested due to their outlaw actions in the past month.

So in 3 weeks, you should be just fine. There might be some big sales in Bangkok as well. 



The red area with people pic on it is the effected area. But that area is the heart of shopping center. There are about 5 shopping center that has been closed for a month now.

There are only two trim of GTI selling in Thailand, The highline and normal. They also selling normal Golf.

The highline is almost getting every opinion except that navigator, bluetooth, rear view camera and PA. The normal trim is similar to highline except ACC, Armrest, Media in and come with R17. The cost for normal paint and special paint are the same.

My GTI is deep black pearl. Many GTI in Bangkok are candy white.

My GTI is on highline trim - highest value of money to pay for. The GTI cost a lot more due to the imported tax - £55,500 (I have to spend less on my unnecessary items for the next 6 years  ) But the GTI will make me smile every morning when I get into the car and get ready for Bangkok Traffic jam.....

Very nice car. Cool to see a nice VW in Asia. Didn't know that they drive on the left in Thailand.
