Whats the performance like on the 150bhp tdi?
Pretty special to be honest.
My previous 'relationship' with a diesel had not been pleasant, but I was pressured into picking a diesel by my boss, who was concerned that my choice of car (MG ZS 180 2.5V6) would yield horrendous fuel bills! Budget too tight to get a BMW 330 diesel, I picked the PD 150 on the basis of all the articles in motoring mags that had been written about it - so much so that I didn't even test drive one before I ordered it.
What a good choice I made!
It pulls and pulls and pulls. Providing you remember this is no V-Tec (it's done its best by 3750rpm, and its pointless going beyond 4000 rpm) you could never be disappointed.
I don't get much chance to enjoy it during the week - the mornings are a sleepy 95mph cruise down the A1 into london, the evenings a 35mph crawl home, but at the weekend I get to have some fun! It is one of those geniunely quick cars where you can put yourself on the wrong side of the road, see traffic coming towards you, yet still make it past whatever you're overtaking, with plenty of room to spare.
What you have to remember is 236 lbft of torque and six speed box makes a quick car. You will be v surprised to see what you can keep up (and humiliate!)
But, that still isn't the best thing about it.
Turbo whistle is.
Any PD 150 owner will tell you that these puppies whistle like nothing you've ever heard before. My buddy had a MY01 Scoob imprezza (which, once rolling couldn't pull away from me

) was gutted when he first heard me go whistling up the street, because his never sounded that good! Garaunteed head swiveller from 100 yards!
