Fuel Pipe!!! HELP PLEASE!!

Ok, so I got a fuel leak, right next to the fuel pump, it turned out to ne the fuel pipe that runs the entire length of the car.  Went to GSF to get some new pipe and they informed me that the parts no longer made, the bloke behind the counter, fyi he has a mk1 G60, WOW, anyhoo, he had one esp made, cost him?200....  Dont really want to spend that much so has anyone got any ideas please???

sorry no real thought that don't sound a bit cowboyish!!! but just out of interest, was that gsf in farnham?? if so i remember chatting to the guy about his mk1 its a 1900 as well isn't it? never seen it but apparently its sh!t off a shovel!!! he also told me he made his own traction control to help get the power down by modding an abs unit or something?

If it is the steel pipe that runs along the floor that is leaking due to corrosion, replace it with copper pipe. Easy to bend and won't rot and available from your local diy store.

Cheers Geez, gonna pop down to homebase in a moment!!!  Have you tried it??  Yes, it was the Farnham branch, that guys the don when it comes to MK1's, wish I could employ him as my machanic!!!  Anyhoo, just FYI mailed a guy at http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/ and he was well helpful!!!  told me to try http://www.automec.co.uk/ ...  Looks VERY promising, have to ck them out during the week!!  Off to Homey now!!! :laugh:

Yup, defo go to Automec - it's really your only option.

I think the piping is CuNi - DONT use copper!!! Will work harden and not right for the job

check out www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk if not already there - should be big discussions on doing this job and I think soon one of our members is going to post a 'how to' on it from memory.

 I had the same fault on my old Mk1. I got one fabricated for fairly small beans at Iddon Hydraulics in Stockport a few years back. Don't know whereabouts you are but maybe a local hydraulics/metal fabricator could help you out too.

Yeah that guy at GSF  in Farnham is sh1t hot. He used to work there back when it used to be Autocavan - thats as far back as when I had my first mk1 golf gti back in 1989!

Very useful guy to know.
