These were new arms as well!

Oh and DH, taking a Golf 4 on a track  I have got a lot to learn but I'll do the track idea when I have money and a car I don't need to travel to work etc in!

i went from a modded mk2 16v to a standard primera gt.
one was a pain in the arse cost a fortune to keep going and looked nice , the other was a nissan.
having said that i still think it was the right decission.
I think I just grew out of wasting/spending money on something i didn't need to just to get it how i wanted , then get bored with it.
I'm with clarkson now, most cars are as good as they can be from the factory depending on what you pay for. A heavliy modded mk5 gti might be faster round a track but i bet it's not as good day to day.

Agree 100% with this. It's exactly why I haven't modded the Bora. There will be another car for this eventually

Talk to Hurdy.  His was doing daily duties for some time with 350bhp.  Not sure whether it is now, but a properly performance modded car will be fun to drive and significantly faster than OEM.

You're going to tell me remapping a 130bhp TDi to 170bhp isn't going to improve it?

Too scared to do track days because it's your only drive?  Bless. Man-up or get a cheaper car.  You will not have more fun in your car.

Or sell it and get another console or something

i'm fully aware of hurdys car and like i said , i'm sure it is faster round a track and of course it can be used day to day, but i'll stand by my point that it wont be as pleasant to use as the standard version.

I'm well feeling like this about my car at the mo, recently with
moving an business an other 'growing up' responsibilities it does make you question if it's all worth it. Don't know if I can justify spending ££££ on it in return for what is to be honest, a car only useable 2 or 3 times a year! Especially when I ideally need another van for work shiz

Plus I've been looking at rallyes.....
Skoda Octavia VRS DSG (soon!)
Skoda Rapid Spaceback

Certainly not in Aus, where you can't do much over 50mph anywhere without fretting about your license.

But in the UK, on roads that are very lightly policed I know when I drive my Golf I f*cking love it way more than anything else, but then I probably have more invested in it emotionally than those who have just furtled around the edges with the trim and other minor stuff like remaps and diverter valves.

With Hurdy's car it's not that it *can* be used day to day, it's that it *has* been used daily for months and years.  I fail to see how it is so much less pleasant than standard?

A lot of people's opinion seems to have been informed after spending not much on not very good 'performance' upgrades like coilovers and other tat.

Spend proper money carefully and you will improve the handling of a car (and performance), without compromising the ride and certainly not the performance.  To do this you need to not be precious about ride height and BS things like that.

Or just move on.

change the record fella , you've worn that groove out.

and again, for general day to day driving a car as heavily modded as hurdys is not going to be as pleasant as a standard mk5 gti. the suspension isn't going to be as compliant on the uk's potholed cart tracks for a start ,and i don't care what you say. Although his car might be able to take roundabouts  quicker than a standard car is irrelevant to day to day driving as i'm sure he's not a moron who would be going anywhere near the speeds needed to prove it on a public road.

DH I'm not in good enough financial position to gave a track car, trust me I'd love it
but the sums don't add up at the moment. I have improved the car from when I bought it.

I don't want a daily racer if I was going to track properly then I can assure you it would be done properly!
