Mk5 GTI Suspension Options
« on: 08 May 2010, 14:06 »
Hi everyone

I will soon be starting a new job that will require a daily commute of about 200 km (on a good motorway).  I am planning to keep my very well maintained 2006 mk5 GTI (currently 81,000 km on the clock) as the daily commute workhorse.  My suspension is currently stock.  I would like to change the spring / damper set up for a more comfortable ride and yet try and retain as much as possible in terms of stock handling.  The bias, however, is on ride comfort.  I'm also planning to change the suspension bushing (given the age of the car and the fact that temperatures where I live are very high) -- currently undecided between new factory bushing and Powerflex items.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice on bushing / spring / damper choices to meet my principal objective of achieving a more comfortable ride without sacrificing too much in terms of handling.

Thanks.

Rehan

Koni FSD's with stock springs would be a good set-up for comfort if you aren't bothered about lowering the car. Powerflex bushings would give the car a slightly stiffer feel to it, but I doubt that they would undermine any comfort.
