Erik, I knew you'd love it. The stock GTI just doesn't have enough oomph, but the remapped version is far, far better than the extra 50 or 60hp makes you think.

If they made a RWD remapped GTI, it would probably be the perfect car (yes, I know there's the R, but I don't like the way it looks...)

Thanks for the update/review.
I have just been reading the technical document from a VW source about the engine design and manufacture of the the EA888 engine range and how it compares to the older unit. They have unlike the mk5 GTI engine main block, head made the EA888 capable of handling ~270bhp.
"Engine block higher average internal pressures up to 25 Bar. That in turn allows for higher specific power output of greater 100kW/L and 175Nm/L."
So chipping is becoming more interesting to me from an engineers stand point than it did before.

Yes Snoops, it is what I want too quite badly as I want more mid-range acceleration.
However, having spoken to my very nice and beautiful Warranty Manager lady, it seems that if VW have any inkling of a re-map then they would not touch the car if something went wrong. Also, any VW ECU updates would not be installed.
Do you not think this is a bit of a problem and a risk?

Yes its why i may try and wait for a few years or talk myself out of it from an engineers point of view by looking at it at different levels. but i I have a problem in that my local VW dealer is also a VWR dealer and keeps asking if i want to try their demo car

Hi Snoop all very rational I would support that 'till the end of days........but do not enter a remapped GTI............you go ballistic and cannot utter any sensible words....you'd better reach for Visa or else life with a GTI will never be the same again....... :lipsrsealed:
