Sponges
« on: 03 May 2010, 20:58 »
Been having a look at some things on detailing world and I've seen a few people using sponges?!

I thought sponges were a thing of the past? Have they made a comeback? Or is there some other reason I don't know about?

some guys have been using/testing natural grout sponges but i havent been interested enough to read on about it as im a firm believer that microfibre noodle wash mitts and lambs wool mitts are alot more gentle on the surface of the car and draw the small dirt particals deep into the pile and away from the surface, normal sponges though will definatly scratch your paint as the dirt particles get trapped between the sponge and surface.

this is just my opinion based on 15yrs experience in the trade but doesnt mean its gospel

I'm with Dan on this one, BUT, I have been using a Zymol sponge the last few washes of my car, just to have a little play really. It's not bad, but I will be going back to my Dodo Mitt in future.

My car is full of swirls and holograms anyway  Did I just admit that on a public forum??? haha there is a reason for it though, will all be corrected and protected soon enough

Also not a good thing using natural sponges, not good for the natural sponge as they are all ready struggling with increased pollution in our oceans ,why use them when you can use a mitt

I tried a natural sponge and it's not bad if you use it the same way as a mitt (2b method and grit guard).
Had a chat with one of the guys from Dodo and he said it was really down to preference.
