Bluefin

Maybe should have posted in the remapping section but didn't want any abuse from the R-Tech guys.

Bluefin is the name of the handheld unit from Superchips which you can order on line for approx £445 (including remap s/w).

Order/pay on line a couple of days later the unit arrives.

You then need to plug into the port under the light control switch and copy your original ECU map to the bluefin device.

Next you need to install the bluefin CD s/w onto your PC and download your new map after your original map has been checked. (I had to download Windows Vista drivers from the Superchips website at this stage).
Then plug into the port under the light switch, following the instructions on the unit and your GTI is transformed.
It's normal to get error lights during installation and the car may ‘cough’ a little on first start up.
The original map is still on the device so you can revert to this whenever required.

On my first test drive the difference was very noticeable - almost scary. Superchips claim 274bhp and 372 Nm which I can well believe, the car feels so much faster and smoother,  the torque is available in all gears. Wheel spin in 1st and 2nd takes a little getting used to and is a no no in the wet.
Yesterday I went on a 200 mile trip and would say 'normal' driving mpg is 5% + better (in case you need to justify it to your logical side of the brain/better half).
Enthusiastic driving and mpg is way down as you’d expect.
Insurance - for me is actually less as I was paying over the odds with Direct Line, they wouldn’t insure any mods at all. I got 2 quotes from my new insurer with and without the remap there was around £120 difference.
Warranty – yet to find out for real, Superchips will warranty any parts caused to fail by the remap, tricky to prove I imagine but remember you can revert to the original map whenever you need.

Plenty on here like Revo or R Tech. I can’t compare, sure they are great. I went for bluefin because of the ability to restore to the original map.

In my opinion – well worth the money whichever company you go for.

Those of you indisposed to any sort of risk should just enjoy your fantastic car as it is.

Excellent write up. Thanks so much.
The way this car is bleeding me, I think Bluefin will be the most economical and convenient option for me.
Now that's another £500 on top of the £2450 I am bleeding.

Great write up.

I'm considering the Bluefin as mk6 isn't quite as fast as my old ED30. seems good value for money too.

I got mine remapped. it really transforms the car. Prior to my map I was a bit sceptical that such a simple process could change the car but I remember the night I drove out my estate (the guy came to my house to do it) and I just prodded the throttle in 2nd. WOW! It actually felt brutal compared to how the car was.

Congratulations on getting your map. I am happy you are pleased with it. For the first 2 weeks I wasn't sure I was enjoying mine as the car became quite savage in my opinion but once I got used to the added thrust I became quite happy.

I would guess I'm around the same level of power as you - got a RR day booked so I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyway as I was saying i'm happy that your happy. Well done

I am going to wait for Wolfgang to naturally loosen(!) up: 2000 miles should do it.
I will then re-map. Have to discuss this with my Insurance Company.

At least 2k. Insurance is bound to go up and some companies won't entertain the idea. Plenty do and you may be in for a pleasant surprise like me.
