At the moment Dunlop Sport Maxx... but i would not recommend these. Switching to the Goddyear Eagle F1's once these are done with. by far the best tyres available for the Golf imo :smiley:

Totally agree with this as I have found with my cars that when fitted with Goodyears, everything was as it should be! :smiley:

Yes they aint brilliant in the snow or cold, but other than that they are great. Been very bad this last year for cold weather... but i doubt we will have another as cold.. i hope :smiley:

You could turn it into a 'press model' and remove the wheel arch covers and fill that void  :evil: then put the arch back in but i would not advice it.

Would be interersting to know were the peak is for the noice im guessing 200-300hz.

Well you won't believe this.
I had a feeling my tyres were under inflated unlike my ego! :grin:
Larger contact area, spring and damper rates affected etc, etc.
Went and checked the tyre pressures.
Car level. Not been driven since yesterday, so cold tyres.
2.45 all around! VW recommend 2.6.
So pumped them up to 2.6 with a foot pump. Checked with 2 different gauges, one digital and one analogue. Perfect.
Drove the car on some rough roads in my area.
Noise levels very much less, enough now not to bother me too much.
Tomorrow I will go on the M4 and hear if there is a reduction in road roar. Should be better, I hope.

I had Bridgestone Potenzas on an old Civic a few years ago, and the road noise from them was dreadful. 

My Golf has Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's - and I can't really fault them so far.  I'm sure there are better tyres out there, but the GT gets great reviews.

So you feel that the Dunlops are reasonably quiet even on rough tarmac?
