Hey all,

First chance to use my new G220 Megs oribital polisher...

http://javalins.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/renault-scenic-clay-polish-wax

Paint didn't come up as well as the Ford Fusion I did a few weeks ago.   Both the same year, but very different lives.  Which I wonder is just the poor general condition of the paint. The bonnet went all patchy.  Something I did or just the paint?  Here - http://javalins.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/scenic_shinybonnet.jpg

Back of the wheels was solid with ingrainded brake dust / etc - how to clean it? Plenty of megs wheel cleaner and elbow grease applied, more elbow grease required?  Here - http://javalins.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/scenic_still_dirty_backofwheel.jpg

Finally - can you get a 5L of decent wheel cleaner - almost used a whole bottle of megs on these!

Knackered now.

Cheers all,

James

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

for the whells try some neat tfr or some diluted whell acid, should shift all that better than APC because APC is better at de-greasing and general cleaning, TFR will attack the crusty backed on break dust/road grime, after you've got them how you want them give them a really good rinse off then wash with some soapy water well and rinse again, dry off and give them a good polish by hand then seal and wax them, they'll stay cleaner for longer and the sealant and wax will stop contaminents bonding to the surface.

Might have figured out what I did wrong with the bonnet.  I think the polish dried then I didn't wipe off enough before waxing.

Doh.  But easily correctable.

Oh, can anybody recommend a more aggresive clay?  I.e. for doing the bottom of the door panels where contamination is particularly bad...?
