glass and bumpers, your thoughts if you will
« on: 30 April 2010, 10:11 »
hi all. i am about to do up a recently purchased early 5 door mk 2 on a budget. it is a small bumper model with quarter lights in the front windows.  both bumpers are damaged and need replacing. i have a spare set of big bumpers which i am relictant to fit simply because i think the late bumpers look wrong on a car with quarter light front windows. (i know i'm being a tart, diamond hell, but i want it as "nice" as i can on the smallest budget possible)

anyway, i have a later 2 door with one piece glass up front. is it possible to strip the early door and fit seals and glass from a later door? if so is the glass the same in the 5 and 3 door models? (the cars are stored seperately so i cant compare)

I don't think you can, I wanted to do the same (post-88 single glass > pre-88 door), but RJ said no.

Plus, 3 door door's are slightly longer than the 5 door (not sure if the glass is though).

It does a little and you'll bleed scene points, I'm just waiting on a set of 90 spec doors for mine ... look at the link posted above - its a bunch of photos of my car (1/4 + big bumper)

early side trim is stuck on and theres no holes on the body like later cars. i suppose you will want the later trim that match the big bumpers? you could silkaflex it to the body

As stated 3dr and 5dr glass not interchangeable.

Small bumpers, keep them small bumpers as big bumpers look gash on an early car.

If you need any 5door bits and bobs I have spare door seals etc sitting in the garage for nominal sum.

Drop me a PM if you need owt
