Brake lines almost chopped in half :-s

Hey guys, just jacked my car up as it's making a dodgy noise in the rear (either f**ked suspension, or tyres rubbing on the arch, can't figure it out) and noticed that somewhere along the way, two parts have connected in a way they shouldn't have and crushed the brake lines on both sides where the lines go over the rear axle (if you look at the mega grid, it's where it's connected to the axle on the line between F13 and F14). The car used to be 80mmfrom lowered, so I'm assuming it's from then, at the moment it's on G60 rear suspension (which I think is 20/30mm lower than standard 8v ride height?) What's the chance that it could have happened at it's current ride height?

Also, what's the difference between 6 line and 4 line braided brake hose kits?? What are the extra 2 lines for?

Front Axle
2 Hoses -  calliper > hard line

Rear Axle
2 Hoses - floor pan > rear beam
2 Hoses - rear beam > callipers

I'm not sure what hoses they don't give you in the 4 line kit - but I would imagine it would be missing the "floor pan > beam" ones.

If the lines have been crushed - I would check your bump stops on the rear struts to see if they are still there. If they are, then I would guess it was an error during installation of the rear shocks. I've seen someone have a car jacked up and supported on the rear beam - then proceed to remove the bottom strut bolt, firing the rear ream instantly into the chassis as the weight of the car fell on it - epic FAIL.

Haha yea I love that grid another quick question, I was gonna get my arches rolled to accomodate the lower offset wheels I have on there, I was quoted £70 for four corners. I then thought about getting the mounting face of the wheels milled, and got quoted £48...was thinking about getting the wheels milled, would this take away from any structural integrity of the wheel (it would only be 2-3mm)

Could do yes, as the area around the bolts needs to be a certain thickness.

The 2 hoses missing from the 4-hose kit would be the beam-->caliper ones.  This is because the 4-hose kits are for cars with rear drum brakes rather than floating calipers, so they just have hard lines plumbed straight into the back of the drums 

As for the milling/lathing, some wheels will happily give up 2 or 3mm, some wouldn't, you'd be best off showing the wheel to the engineer for his opinion.  If you're desperate for extra mm, material could come off the discs or back of the stub axles too...  Personally, I'd go for the hammer to arch technique

not the one from GSF, thats a 4 line kit for GTI models. what they do is miss out the 2 beam flexis like ben said. its a 4 line kit for the people who are too lazy to do the lot
