back from,,,,, er utterly.....
« on: 28 November 2004, 16:34 »
as above, i got back early as left at 11 ish, ill give you a brief summary of my views of it........

right i got there about 9 ish, to be told it didnt open till 10, luckily i sold my empi wheels as arranged at 9.30, then i had to bung the security peeps a tenner to get in early as it was bunging it down with rain!!(not bad ?10 for me and the kids, yeah i know it was ?7.50 at 10 but hey 1/2 is everything!!)

as ive never been here before, i thought 1st impressions were spose to count, hmmm, not here in my eyes...

as i went in the traders gate, there was a small basket ball size court out side in the rain sellin autojumble stuff, and a burger bar thingy (more on that later).

theninto the exhibition hall its self, yeah not bad size, loads of cheapy tool stalls (you know the ?5 a bundle of spanners stuff, that when you really need em they break! lol), 1st off i saw a few buggies, then as i walked round the display area showed me a suprising amount of what i consider to be 'toss' ive seen better at the newark meets ive organised in the past to be honest..., let me giev you and example or 2...

a f reg mk2 1300 cl, standard, with some tinsle on the bumper and a set of 15" 'motorworld' style wheels??

what the fook???

not far from it, a very clean black mk2 gti, low, nice rims, colour coded kit etc, to be let down by having a ?9.99 set of 'leatherette' seat covers?? what is wrong with people?? these were how ever display cars of various clubs, (i cant remember the names, probably best not too). there were some other mingers,
but amungst them there were some nice 'show' style cars of which you expect of a 'show/meet/type thing' there was anice corrado like ads, althoguh it had been lowered and different rims, there was another corrado or 2 there , (a white one was nice), there was a red one, but to be honest it was on some gay wheels and looked rough, you get the idea??,
there was a nice mk4 gti in white, along side an nice rocco also white, goin with a chrimbo theme, there was some nice vw buggies, and a splitty van, but i thought worthy air cooled stuff was thin on the ground.

stalls.

right, there was a fair amount of stuff to buy both for water and aircooled, i managed to get some door panels, parcel shelf and a gasket set for my bug, i didnt look too much at water cooled stuff as i dont really need any thing, but there was the usual array of lexus style lights and big bore exhausts and air induction kits etc.

food:

cak, me and the kids got burgers froma stall outside near the auto jumble, worst ?17 ive ever spent (bugjam burger were like 100% quality compared!!)
four burgers and four cokes, a joke was shate, the kids didnt like em as cold and hard, i aint mine, but will prob regret it later.

so peeps, i have some piccies to post which i will do in a mo (watch replies....)

was ok i spose, but if it werent for me sellin them wheels here id have been seriously pi55ed off, prob ive been expecting too much??? maybe maybe not,

if only it hadnt been rainin like fook , id have walked the car park and got you 50 plus piccies of quality cars (some ex mag cars etc), as the car park was full of stuff that in my eyes should have been inside!!!

just my opinion, if you liked it you liked it. I just thought the vw scene as a whole would 'big it up' as this is like the last national get together of the year....... come on peeps its cant be this bad surely??

Gaz

beer stop then pics to follow!!

Ive got to say that i agree with you Gaz, i thought it was very f**king disapointing, and some of the cars on the stands were poop

the red corrado was a bit ?, hadnt even been cleaned.

was a nice storm there though and quite a few nice Golf G60's

on the whoile i have to say that it was a crap show, and they have to pic up there game for next year IMO

I went last year and was very disapointed with it, so decided not to bother this year, although I will be going to Bugfreeze which is a similar kind of show, but is more local for me.

i must say that i thought i was a pile of toss

i wasn't exspecting a lot of water cooled stuff but even if i had gone for the air cooled i would of been disapointed.

the quality of the stands where pants. this was highlighted buy the crowd that surrounded the trimsport stand. they had a good stand with quality goods for sale and where very helpful to everyone.

but i think the biggest promlem is when you have a show and the cars in the car park out weight pound for pound in quality and style and class the cars in the show. in the car park there was some beutiful 911's, mk1's, mk2's,busses and even a maserati.

they need to get there act together......... big time...

aye up me duck!
