blocked radiator, possibly rad-welded
« on: 24 April 2010, 19:59 »
right so ive been havin some overheating issues with my mk3 16v, basically there was no coolant moving around the system, so i replaced the water pump and stat and flushed the top hose and now water is squirting out of the little hose that runs from the top rad hose to the expansion tank. took it for a good run before and it overheated again. all the pipes where hot, but the radiator wasn't even warm. plus water was constantly squirting through the small pipe into the tank. i noticed theres a patch at the bottom corner of the radiator which looks like theres a build up of coolant there and there was a few drops of fresh pink liquid seeping out. so im guessing the previous owner knew about this and has maybe used some rad weld. which has now blocked the radiator. i should also mention i've tested for a bad head gasket.

replace radiator mate, did you fit anew thermostat? if rad is leaking it will cause cooling system to lose pressure and make engine run hot, but from what your saying id say rad is proper blocked
