Bulbs - in the wing mirrors - what type?!

Can anyone tell me what type of bulbs are in the wing mirrors to save me dismantling them?

When I use the coming / leaving home lights, my wing mirrors have little lights on them that light up the ground.  The trouble is they look really poop as they are a very yellowey light, and I'd like to swap them for something a bit brighter and clearer.... especially against my white DRL's and xenons.

I'd also like to change all the interior lights for LED's - although that may be going a bit too far!
Has anyone got a list of bulbs that the MK6 uses?

As for the puddle lights, I'm sure you need to remove the mirror glass to get to the lights. Frog tried but I don't know if he managed it in the end.

Thanks for the link.  I guess I'll order up some bulbs!!
If I knew the puddle bulb size I would order them too, and have a go at it.  I wonder how much new glass costs if I broke it... apart from 7 years bad luck

I've done my interior light and they look real classy, not done the puddle lights as I'm a little scared of breaking the glass, let me know how you get on..

I also couldn't get my footwell light boxes to come apart to change the lights in there.
I got frustrated after a while and just gave up.

Indeed. I gave up when my technician mate at the VW dealer told me that dismantling the mirror to access the bulbs invariably resulted in the glass breaking. He said they alwyas ordered a new glass ready to put back in when they needed to work on the mirrors.

I would prefer bright LED-type bulbs, but TBH, I've got used to the stock bulbs now and don't give them a second thought.

Have you all gone for the quad ones, or has anyone tried the SMD ones which are smaller?

I see autobulbsdirect do 'canbus' compatible ones... will they work on the numberplate surround without throwing up warning lights?!
