Long time, new car
« on: 21 April 2010, 19:32 »
Hi all

havent been on here for a long time. used to have a mk4 golf turbo, but have not had anything, worth talking about, since july last year. decided on buying a mk5 1.6 FSI S in sliver.
Mainly for the missus because she drives it more then me and it will be more economical with having a two year old.
its got 40000 on the clock, 06 reg getting it for about £6750.

Just want some heads up with not owning a mk5 before, is the 1.6 an ok car ? obviously its no GTi but i was trying to save up for an R32. But for the time being this is what we are going to have. And because she is having that im looking for a cheap mk1, 2 or 3 that i can have as a little project.

Cheers

The 1.6 is a bit quicker than the 1.4 and more economical too. It's not fast by any means but it will sit comfortably at motorway speeds. For a safe, economical run around with plenty of boot space it's a solid choice :afro:
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

nice one cheers mate. looking at getting some alloys on it and spray the black exterior trim silver.
looking at doing some discreet minor things to it.

is there anything that can be upgraded in them, interior more like arm rest or cd changer ?

There's a centre arm rest for the front. Not sure about price right now but they were ~€200. It's meant to be an easy enough install.
For audio there is the OEM CD changer or ipod connection. I have an aftermarket aux in jack that I use with my mp3 player since I don't have an ipod. I won't recommend it yet though because while it worked perfectly for me another member has had serious problems with his and we couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. There's also the OEM RNS 510 headunit that has an aux jack and sat nav amongst other nice features. Can be pricey but everyone says it's 100% worth it.
I've put black dome lights in mine and changed all the interior lights to much whiter bulbs. It looks fantastic and the light from the bulbs is much clearer at night imo.
