Summer weather brings a problem!!
« on: 21 April 2010, 14:50 »
Hello All
Hoping you can help me out with a slight problem
Having owned my Ed30 for the past month I finally attempted to use my Climate in anger today as the temperature had got to the point that the inside of the car felt warm
The cooling effect was not great so I selected the recirculation switch and things cooled down to a better level (still not great so will need to be regassed soon)
I drove in stop start traffic for some time with this on and then headed into a car park
Once out of the bright sunlight I noticed that the Exhaust system warning light had come on.
Any opinions as to whether these two things would be related?
I am guessing that if when I restart the engine the light is still on I should be heading for someone with VAGCOM to check this out?
Thanks for any help/advice you can give
Mark

OK - so the light is still on
Apparently refers to the Lamda Probe..but the car is running fine and the icon is not flashing (think this means not too desperate..??)
Had this with my Ibiza before and it turned itself off and the RAC man reset the ECU
Not got RAC at the mo..

Anyone got VAGCOM in the Reading area that could help me out please?

Be very happy to pay/buy drinks etc etc.

Thanks for any reply

Mark

my exhaust light came on and went off something like 24 hours later...never happened again. take to an indy if you are worried, they often hook up diagnostics and dont charge. Unlike a main barsteward stealer who often charge labour to diagnose, then talk a lot of nonsense about the potential faults, book you in, change a few unrelated things, then in the meantime they reset the fault and say its fixed, whilst charging you dearly for the priveledge.

If you dont want to be paitent then go get it reset, if it comes back investigate further.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Your air con could be an expensive problem as i too thought mine needed re gassing and it turned out i needed a new compressor as it had packed up my car was out of warrenty and was costly to replace.

Thanks for the reply No Golf Clubs at all - My light has gone off and seemingly is now fine - will get it checked out if it happens again.

Will look to get the Air Con re gassed soon. If compressor has gone I have read on Honest John that there is a less costly option in compressors which I would go for over the Stealers "solution" - Thanks for the Heads Up though.

Matt23 - Sorry meant to say I am sorry for your misfortune
Hope the experience did not dent your general GTI experience - they are GREAT cars aren't they
Not too sure how "cool" this is to say but I LOVE my car and cannot believe my luck in owning one - such a leap forward compared to my previous Golfs that I loved too

i too think the GTI is a great car the only problem was it happened last june in the only 2 weeks it was hot and you sure do miss it when it's not working. I used an car air con company as dealers round me are totally useless plus they were cheaper too.
