Im not sure if anyone has the answer nor if anyone else has had this problem. I have a 1998 1.8T (without the alarm sensitivity button). Before I bought it, the central locking packed up on both keys. On one key completely and on the other it was intermittant. He had it tested by a local auto electrician and he wasnt sure. He said possibly the transponder had packed up in the car and one of the keys wasnt sending a signal but the other was.
Since ive owned it the keys havn't unlocked the doors but the batterys work. Further to this, if I lock the door manually using the lock on the outside, it deadlocks and the alarm activates and I have to turn the key to the left twice about a million times, often having to wait for the motor to cool down. The light keeps flashing and the alarm goes off if I open the door.
I've been having to lock all doors with the button inside the door (occasionally rear passenger knob will pop back up) then manually undo the rear drivers door, shut the drivers door then lock from the rear and then lock and shut the rear door)
Finally, when I do eventually get the light to stop flashing and undo the car manually, it only unlocks the drivers lock but the central locking works off the buttons inside the door.
Sorry for the essay I just dont wanna take it to the stealers and get robbed. Would it be cheaper to fit an aftermarket system or is it something simple as its nice having central locking, infact, Ive never owned a vehicle where the alarm, immobiliser and central locking are all without faults apart from the wretched work van. Cheers for any ideas
