Changing from FSI to TDI
« on: 19 April 2010, 18:26 »
Currently I have a 1.6 FSI.

I want a bit more resell value and power under foot.

Would changing to a TDI be a good option, and roughly how much is an MK5 TDI ?

Thanks

Evoss

I Think your 1.6 is 110bhp, the 1.9tdi is 105bhp and the 2.0tdi comes in 140bhp and 170bhp i think????

I had the 105bhp 1.9tdi and had it remapped to 135bhp, fantastic car! 55mpg, got the map taken off when it came time to sell!

Have a look around autotrader for prices! prices will vary greatly depending on age, milage condition etc.

The only TDI I would get is a GT one (140 - 170) with the sportier front end and wheels. The MK5 Golf is a pretty dull car IMO in standard form.

Your car is 115 BHP, the 1.9 tdi is 105 but remaps to 170 easily.

65bhp from a remap

I doubt the turbo can flow that much air and I reckon the injectors are maxed out long before that

to answer the OP's question though - depends how  many miles you are doing - diesel really comes into its own if you're doing over 10K miles per annum

IMO i'd go for the 170 GT

I have never driven a TDI golf, But i did have a A3 170  S- Line (i imagine they drive and go the same). Amazing motor!

It all depends on what you want from it, and how far your pocket will stretch. Cos remaping your current car will be much cheaper than buying i a new one.
MKV GTI/ 3 Door/ 18" Monza II/ Full leather/ heated seats/ Manual/ Arm rest/ 6 Disc changer/ Cruse control/ Highline MFD/ Xenons/ Dog's Nuts!

Then I'd stick with what you got and build up your NCB's and save some cash
