Installed 'R' LEDs (Pics Inside)
« on: 18 April 2010, 19:58 »
Got the R LED's installed today, was a fairly painless process apart from the wing screws being tighter than a nun's chuff. Still got the pain in my thumbs as I type.

Anyway, I've got some pics here, sorry they are rubbish but they were taken with my iPhone.

Just one thing, did anyone notice when they installed theirs that the reverse light flashes about 4/5 times really fast just as the car starts ? I assume thats just because the MFD is giving the warnings ?

Yeah will need VCDS to  tell the computer that all is fine basically, as right now it thinks there is a problem with all the lights. It gives you a reminder when you start up the car then you dont get it again till next time so its not so annoying. It took about 30 mins but could have done it sooner had I not had the wing nuts from hell. Oh yeah, it was easy to install, If I can do it anyone can.

just a quick question... did u notice a larger gap at the bottom of the lights? Mine seem to sit flush at the top but there is a much larger gap at the bottom :undecided:

Yeah they are about 1-2mm from being perfect.

What I did was position them as best I could with the long black side clip taken off, and as there is a little play at the screws before tightening them up I positioned them to a point I was happy with then tightened. Then at the end I clipped the long black side protector thingy back on. I was happy with the end result. When I did put the first one in, I thought...thats not right, then put my normal light back in and it was perfect, but as you say there not 100% spot on, about 98%. I guess there must be a tiny bit of difference between the R and GTI. But if you do what I said and remove the black side thingy, you can get it looking almost exact.

Very nice, I bet you're well chuffed. Good to see a decent car again - we hired a Nissan Micra today to keep our minds off a certain cloud of ash that is preventing us from flying home from Tenerife. Shame

I have the same 2mm gap at the bottom, though it's probably less noticeable on carbon grey.
