what sort of help do you need? coilovers (or air-ride) required to give you a range of adjustment to get the ride height you require. with regard to wheels, the first pic example will get you pulled over all the time  probably need them tucked under the arches a touch more in the uk :)

Hi, the standard fitment for a mk1 is 4x100 pcd and offset is et37.  6" was the widest i think vw put on but as you know you can go a lot wider.  depends what style of wheel you want to go for... wheels like ATS classics are quite popular for this size... have like 7" wide front and 8" rear.  look for brands suchs as ATS, Borbet, bbs etc... look on places like ebay and google 4x100 wheels, see whats about and come back here to check if they'd work if needs be.

oh and as far as suspension goes.. JV's ight, for a budget coilovers are becoming a lot more affordable now, i think full kits in $ start from around $300 onwards and will allow you to adjust the height of your car from anything between 40mm to 120mm.

well hopefully i can get some pics up friday for all of you. didnt realize how pricey those BBS RS's can be. I once saw a pic of a jetta with Porsche 928 wheels and fell in love. I think i may lean that way....now the question is adapters?
