To all those with cloth / interlagos seats...
« on: 15 April 2010, 19:21 »
How have they faired with age? If you could say how many miles you've done in them that would also be helpful.

Edit: Also does anyone know how straightforward it is to replace them with the mk5 gti leather seats?

Mine are wearing very well. 46k miles and there is only a very small amount of visible age type wear (looks like it'be been brushed) on the bolster as you get into the car. I too would like to change them for leather though. Friend of mine has just bought a BMW that had lemon leather seats (he wanted black). BMW offer the a service of changing the entire interior (seats, door cards etc for £800). Do VW offer the same service for turning cloth to leather?

How have they faired with age? If you could say how many miles you've done in them that would also be helpful.

Edit: Also does anyone know how straightforward it is to replace them with the mk5 gti leather seats?

The stitching on the seat bolster on my drivers seat has gone. Car has done 32K, and I only weight 10st.

Need to get it re-stitched but don't know anyone in the North-West that does car upholstery.

Mines on about 48k (I think lol, its in the 40s) and the drivers one has been showing signs of wear for sometime now. Its inevetable as your always going to rub it when getting in / out of the car. Passanger ones isnt too  bad but again, shows sign of wear.

They are not too bad to the point where Im thinking of getting sorted. I would have thought come 80+ they will looks pretty poor and will need some TLC.

My car is an 07 GTI with approx 32K miles. I know there is a problem with the cloth wearing on the bolster(drivers side). I've seen loads with really bad wear, even at the dealers, for sale. So I make sure I'm careful getting in/out and so far mine are great. Think VW are aware of this as it is a common fault and they could've used better cloth. Just be careful!

Looks like the leather bolsters on the Ed 30 make a big difference to the longevity of the seats then.

Another reason to go for the Ed 30 :)

I've since read that the leather option isn't all that great on the standard mk5 gti (cost cutting etc), so yes it does seem the ed30 seats will probably last the longest.
