Help! Broken down.
« on: 15 April 2010, 18:42 »
There I was enjoying an afternoon drive, when........

In third gear at about 3500 revs white smoke billowed out of both exhaust pipes. It lasted about five seconds and completely filled the road behind me.

Shocked that my 4 week old gti had just appeared to blow it's engine, I stopped imediatey.
No warning lights appeared on my dash, the exhaust sounded slightly deeper than usual and the tickover didn't feel as smooth as normal.

Concerned I rang my dealership who arranged to have my car towed home. It's going to be towed to my local dealership tomorrow morning.

Any ideas guys? Was thinking maybe turbo's gone or catalitic converter....

Any thoughts would be most welcome, as I'm sat in the middle of nowhere waiting for the tow truck.

Hell, I would not hazard a guess.
How awfully upsetting and embarrassing.
Really very worrying as it can happen to anyone of us at anytime.
Will soon be fixed under warranty.
Hope you have not re-mapped it.

yeah i was thinking turbo.  Sh#te!

i checked the oil level after stopping it was near full.

I thought it may be oil overfill, but didnt look too full. I would imagine the turbo will be replaced and back to happy motoring, right???....

check it again when its cooled down - turbo going normally means the oil disappears from the engine

That's what your warranty is for :afro:
