Very disappointed.....!!
« on: 23 November 2004, 17:54 »
Over the last few months I've had the follwing fitted to my valver:

264deg high lift cams
Ported head
Flowed inlet
Magnex 6x4 oval stainless system
TSR 4 branch manifold

Today I've been on the rollers to get the fueling sorted, cams advanced and also a power run to so the gains which I was expecting.....

.....to my horror my motor is actually down on power sine I went on the rollers back in July when the car was standard. (til 5500 rpm 147bhp now over 141 then) and tourqe (til 5500 rpm): at 2500rpm 14lpft down, 4000rpm 5lbft down, 4500 rpm 7lbft down, 6,000 rpm 5 lbft up.

Whilst these we're being carried out I always remained realistic about the gains I'd be getting, assuming I'd get around 155 -160bhp ignoring manufactures wild claims

Todays power graph really hurts to look after the amount I've spent, does anybody know why this had possibly happened, anybody experianced the same as me...??

The mechanic today said it could be that my head has not been ported properly (I did buy this off e-bay... :()

How standardised are rolling roads? Can you get a wildly different reading between 2 different places? I am only pushing out just over 200 BHP, even though I am actually up a meusered 25 on what it was before the mods. However, a standard VR6 C is meant to be 190 BHP.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

Hope you dont think I meant the cab!! That would be pretty cool though!
I've also got a Corrado VR6 Storm, with the 2.9l VR6 engine (190BHP) It's got a Ram Air induction kit, Milltek exhuast, Larger Throttle Bodies, and an AmD Remap.

The rolling road I visted today was the same one I went to back in July.

I'm debating whether or not to take it up to Stealth racing in the hope I'd getter a better reading and to see if they can make some adjustments.

I had a bit of a feeling the guy working on my car didn't fully know the best set up on a k-jet unit as he kept refering to Saab mechanical fuel injection systems hes worked on in the past.

Also he advanced the cams which gave me a little gain but when he advanced them a further 2 degrees my motor wouldn't start and he kept blaming the battery and after putting a jump on that and still not starting, went back and set the car to how it was when it last started.

your best bet is to take it to a reputable independant garage that has a history of working on your type of engine and get them to set it up properly. it may cost a bit more but i'm sure it'll be worth it. i'm not trying to put them down but i hear stealth's rollers are always on the 'optomistic' side! so if you want a true reading, or something to brag about down the pub i'd do a bit of research first.

hmmm not good news at all

id try and get it to somebody who know's k-jet and how to set it up properly. also how to mod the warm up regulator should your fuelling need increased. might be worth putting a post on ClubGti.com asking if anybody knows anywhere local to you that can set it up correctly.

just on the ported head - i've heard horror stories about so-called polished & ported heads - u really need to be getting somebody who has a reputation for good work. i wouldnt have bought a head of ebay
