fine for painting stuff you dont want a good finish on ie: furniture and fences etc.

if you want to paint a car use an airline and gun, you can use electric units but you need to be spending on top quality units which are a few grand.

you can get a good finish with an aerosol can if you take your time and relise that the clear coat you put over the top is no way near as hard as propper 2pak clear (honestly its about 10 times the stregnth once fully cured)

if you want to spray with electric get somthing like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electric-Airless-Paint-Sprayer-spray-gun_W0QQitemZ260581953522QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item3cabe50ff2

if you hunt around and as your parts are small you could just buy a mini compressor , a large airbrush kit should even be able to do wheels as they are not fully flat.

this would be a good buy if it runs less than £300

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AIR-COMPRESSOR-AND-SPRAY-GUN_W0QQitemZ290424845075QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Air_Tools_and_Compressors?hash=item439eab7313

if you want to do full body pannels and cars etc you need to be looking at huge tank units, circa 80+ liters that really hold and shift some air (14+cfm that recharges fast).
dont forget if your spraying 2k paint to buy a suitable propper air mask and they paint cost is alot more, buy a good brand paint and the best high solid clearcoat you can afford

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but ive noticed 2k clear coats are now getting popular.
Has anyone tried these before? If so how do they compare with clear coats fired through a proper spray gun or the traditional (1k?) cans?

hi mate not sure what u on about 2k getting popular (its being around for years) not sure if u on about you being using a direct gloss which is 2k but with coulor all in one direct out the gun! these are only solids not metallic, pearl or flip paint these can only be achived by painting a ground coat and applying the coulor on top and then the 2k clear

if you painting outside ie not in a booth i recomend adding "rocket" which is a accelerator and will speed up drying time will be able to touch it in about 20min and will reduce the risk of dust particals settling on the paint whilst drying
but will take longer to polish as causes "blooming" cloudy residue  milky effect in the topcoat!

painting is alot harder than it looks yes everyone can have a go and for the most part of it can look alright there is a skill involved overlap and knowing gun settings will play apart in the finish most people just think u mix the paint and put it on!!!! this is not the case with most new colours mettalics flips and pearls there is a certain way to paint them!
and when painting goes wrong which it does! you need the skills to combat the problem ie reactions and paint defects ie orange peel, fish, eyes, solvent pop, to name a few

people say that silver is hard to paint because of colour match yes it is but also down to application of basecoat
to close you get striping to far away you get dry spots and the metallic dont sit up all effect the way the light hits the paint and give you a bad colour match

i hope this helps people and you out but if u going for a metallic flip or peal leave well alone and pay a pro to do it if solid have a bash and see how you get on
